LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - A settlement has been reached in a federal lawsuit involving the Gregg County Jail.

According to online records with the U.S. District Court in Marshall, Tyler attorney and mediator Richard Grainger announced that a settlement was made between Gregg County and the survivors of a Gilmer woman who was found unresponsive in her Gregg County Jail cell on Dec. 28, 2010. The woman, 33-year-old Amy Lynn Cowling, died the following day.

Cowling's mother and three surviving children sued the county in 2011, but the case was settled Wednesday - less than a week before a jury was to hear the case in U.S. District Court in Marshall. Terms of the settlement have not been released.
