Health Alert: Stress linked to mental illness

(CBS) - New research has discovered a link between adolescent stress and severe mental illness later on. Doctors at Johns Hopkins University found young mice with elevated levels of a stress hormone had behaviors often associated with mental illness. More study is needed but researchers say the finding could one day help with the prevention and treatment of schizophrenia and severe depression.


(CBS) - A new study finds stroke survivors who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder are less likely to take prescribed medications. Researchers at Columbia University Medical Center studied 535 stroke survivors and found those with PTSD symptoms were more worried about the long term effects of their medicine and also complained the drugs disrupted their lives.

 


(CBS) - Light exercise after meals may help keep your triglycerides low. A study in Japan finds the combination of walking and light resistance exercise after eating a high fat meal keeps triglycerides levels from rising. High levels can put people at risk for cardiovascular disease or heart attack.
