Tatum to hold local option election May 11 for off-premise beer, wine sales

Posted: Updated:

TATUM/RUSK COUNTY (KYTX) - Voters in the city of Tatum will decide May 11 whether to allow off-premise beer and wine sales at local stores.

According to the city secretary, Tatum City Council called the local option election during its December 10 meeting. It was required to call the election under state law after Dallas-area consultant Ron Perdue turned in enough signatures to meet election requirements, City Secretary Shelly Williams said. He needed at least 19 signatures, but Perdue turned in 50, and the City of Tatum certified 48 of those signatures.

Tatum is situated in both Rusk and Panola counties. Though the town has no convenience or grocery store on the Panola County side of town, if voters approve alcohol sales, it would be the first and only part of Panola County considered wet.
