Before you know it, fall will be here and it will be time to go back to school.  For parents that means stocking up on notebooks, number two pencils, and back to school clothes, all of which usually take a big chunk out of a family's budget.  So, just how much do parents will pay to send their kids off to school this year?More >>

TYLER (KYTX) -

Many of the parents CBS-19 spoke with didn't want to go on camera, but told me they do not support the national organization possibly allowing gay leaders.

However, there are some Tyler parents who fully support the change.

Boy Scouts of America allowing gay leaders could soon be a reality for the 103-year-old organization.

"Discrimination is not something we teach in scouts and it is something I believe very strongly about that I want my kids to grow up in a world where everyone is accepted."

Tyler Bear Scout leader, and parent, Scott Eckert says the scout's consideration makes him proud.

"I wanted to applaud the national organization for making a step in the right direction. This is something that means a lot to me as a parent."

It's a stance he knows many local parents don't agree with.

"Everyone has their strong opinions about the matter which usually down here in the south is, they would not applaud what the Boy Scouts are trying to do."

If the ban were to be lifted, local organizations that have Boy Scout troops like green acres Baptist church here in Tyler, would be able to make their own policy decisions.

"I think it's really good that the national organization will give locals the right to choose. My belief is that East Texas may take a little longer than some areas, but progress is progress and we'll take it where it comes."

Jolie Smith is the chairman of Tyler area gays.

She believes the consideration will eventually be a reality.

"The fact that the dialogue is going on is good.

Eckert hopes will turn into change.

The Boy Scouts of America's consideration for change comes after nation-wide protests, and pulled funds from national companies.

Companies like shipping giant UPS and drug manufacturer merck -- refuse to continue donating while anti gay laws remain.
