Longview Transit's new route

Posted: Updated:

Longview Transit Leaders have approved a new bus route that will travel 13 miles outside of Longview to the city of Gladewater.

For someone like Elicia Smith, who is currently without a car, the Longview bus service is a much needed help.

"It'd be really difficult for me going back and forth. I'd have to walk everywhere." - Smith

The new route will be a pilot route and will only run from March until August giving transit leaders a chance to gauge it's success.

Longview Transit's, Director of Operations, Tequita Mumphrey says Route 7 will be a good way to connect the two cities.

"It is important we provide this service. There are a lot of people that travel from Gladewater to Longview for jobs and to work. Especially the Housing Authority there." - Tequita Mumphrey

"The route will start here at this park, and make 5 trips daily to Gladewater" - Kevin Boyce

It will continue on Highway 80, making stops at the Gladewater Library, the Housing Authority, and Brookshires and than make its way back to Longview.

A one way pass will cost you a buck and a quarter or you have the option of a 3 day pass for 3 dollars.

For Elicia it's a better option.

"I ride the bus every day, and with gas the way it is... it's better to ride the bus."
