Moore, who is from Krum in Denton County, was performing a back flip last week when his snowmobile clipped the top of a jump, sending him over the handlebars. While on the ground, the snowmobile rolled over him. Moore, 25, was able to walk off the course with help and was sent to a hospital with a concussion.

He later developed bleeding around his heart and was flown to Grand Junction for surgery. On Sunday, the family revealed that a secondary complication involving his brain had developed.

A statement was issued on Thursday on behalf of the family.

"This morning Caleb Moore passed away.  He will be truly missed and never forgotten.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude for all the prayers and support they have received from all the fans, friends and family around the world that Caleb has inspired.

They would also like to thank the physicians and medical staff at both Aspen Valley Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital, Grand Junction for their care and dedication.

At this time, the family will not be making any other public statements.  They continue to decline interviews.  Thank you for continuing to respect the family's privacy during this difficult time.

Arrangements for a celebration of life are being made and an announcement will be made in the coming days."

(CNN) -- Snowmobiler Caleb Moore died Thursday, a week after a crash that has raised new safety concerns about the X Games. He was 25 years old.

"He will be truly missed and never forgotten," his family said in a statement.

"The family wishes to express their deep gratitude for all the prayers and support they have received from all the fans, friends and family around the world that Caleb has inspired."

Moore, a freestyle snowmobiler, was attempting a backflip at the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado, when he couldn't rotate his machine enough to land properly. The skis dug into the lip of the slope, bringing the 450-pound snowmobile crashing down on him. The vehicle slammed into Moore's head and chest.
