Trane employees protest new sick time company policy

Local Trane union workers gathered with signs in hand to share how they felt about new policies that require documentation for sick time off.

"We don't negotiate the policy, the company has it's own way of implementing the policy to them, to the membership.

Union president Johnny Gross was fired up too.

He says the policies are not part of the collective bargaining agreement, gross says the policies cause undue hardship for the workers.

"We want a fair policy, want people to be able to be off work sick. When they call in sick, sick time is to have a day off if their real sick.

Trane's parent company -- Ingersoll Rand -- says it's just keeping up with industry standards

"Employees are expected to notify their supervisor in advance of an absence whenever possible and provide appropriate documentation post-absence."

But it's leaving union workers up -charged - and ready for change.

"We want to be a family with the company."

Ingersoll Rand says notification of the rules was given to employees in December.

What was the policy like before for these workers?

The policy included calling in sick on a day -- no doctor's note required.
