UPDATE: Benefit fund set up for Kilgore students killed in wreck

UPDATE: (KYTX) - A benefit fund for the Shala/Bojkaj family has been opened by Citizens
Bank of Kilgore. The bank is located at 301 East Main St., there is also
a branch of the bank in Kilgore's Brookshire's at 747 N. Henderson Blvd.


 

UPDATE: (KYTX) - Kilgore ISD Interim Superintendent gave his comments Monday afternoon on the death of two students in an overnight wreck.

"We found out this morning about the students, and we are deeply sad," Williams said. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family."

Williams said grief counseling is being offered to students at the middle school and high school campuses.

"Counselors have been showing up in their classes today for students, and anyone who needs additional counseling may go to their office," Williams said.


  UPDATE: (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - Two Kilgore Independent School District students were killed and one graduate was injured on Sunday night on Highway 259 north of Henderson, Superintendent Dennis Williams said this afternoon.

"The students were en route from Henderson to Kilgore," he said. The school district is not releasing the names of the students of this time. An official from the Texas Department of Public Safety said the agency is waiting for a report from the trooper who worked the scene on Sunday before they release the students' names.

One of the students killed was an eighth grade female student, who attended class at Maude Laird Middle School was a tennis player, a library aide, and an honor student, Williams said. The 11th grade female student killed attended Kilgore High School and was involved in track, soccer and cross country running, he said.

A 2011 male graduate of Kilgore High School inside of the car was injured.


UPDATE: Officials released the names of the people involved in a fatal one car accident near Henderson Sunday night.

Cpl. Jesse Stewart tells CBS 19 that five people were traveling in a 2001 Honda CRV when it swerved to miss debris in the roadway on Hwy 259 just north of Henderson and crashed.

Hava Shala, 33-year-old driver along with Bennie Shala, 37, and a backseat passenger, Murteza Bojkaj, 19, all of Kilgore, were hospitalized from their injuries. Their conditions are unknown.

Liradone Bojkaj, 14-year-old Kilgore ISD student was pronounced dead on the scene.

Mergimtare Bojkaj, 17-year-old, was flown to ETMC and died from her injuries around 11:23 p.m.

Both were taken to Rader Funeral Home in Henderson.

Murteza Bojkaj, 19, was taken to Tyler Mother Frances in Tyler and is in ICU. He is in critical condition.

 

 


(KYTX) - A late night accident leaves 2 people dead.

The Rusk County Sheriff's Department tells us the rollover happened around 9 p.m. last night on highway 259, just north of Henderson. There was only one vehicle involved.

The cause of the accident is still unknown.
