Web Exclusive: Report says gas prices draining wallets

Posted: Updated:

(CBS/CNN) - Gas prices don't just seem like they are draining your wallet, a new government report finds they really are.

U.S. households spent an average of 2,912 dollars on gasoline last year.  Despite spending more money, the government says Americans are actually buying less gas because they are driving more fuel efficient vehicles.  The average price in Texas for a gallon of regular is around $3.35 cents.  In East Texas, gas prices are as low as 3 dollars and 28 cents.

Boeing has asked the FAA for permission to conduct new test flights of its troubled Dreamliner 787.  The request suggests Boeing wants to test a fix to the plane's battery problems.  Two batteries caught fire last month, grounding the entire 787 fleet.

The battle over the debt limit has been pushed back until May.  President Obama signed a bill Monday to temporarily suspend the $16.4 trillion dollar limit on federal borrowing.  Experts say the bill allows the government to borrow about $450 billion dollars to meet interest payments and other obligations.

Pizza Hut is hoping to tempt you with its new pizza sliders.  The tiny new pies are smaller than its personal pies and can be ordered in batches with different toppings.  The pizza sliders will be available in either a $10 box of nine or a $5 box of three.  Pizza Hut is giving away free samples tonight from 4 to 7 p.m.
