CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Corpus Christi Police have confirmed they have discovered the body of 77-year old Johanna Christy buried in a shallow grave in the back of a home along the 3800 block of Bentwood.

Investigators made the discovery while investigating the case of the missing 77-year-old woman. Police said family members of Johanna Christy called the police department just after 5:30 p.m. Monday to report their concerns for her safety.

When officers got to the scene, they found Christy's vehicle in the driveway. The woman's cane was also in the car, which family members say she needed to get around with.

Police knocked on the door, but no one answered. Christy's 27-year old grandson, David Christy, was also living at the home. Police looked for him for a couple of hours and finally caught up with him after he tried to run from police. He was later arrested near the 6400 block of Weber Road at 8:30 p.m. on charges of assault on a public servant, evading arrest, and resisting arrest, search or transport. One patrol officer received minor injuries during the arrest.

Corpus Christi Police investigators and representatives with the District Attorney's office were at the home early Tuesday morning to look over the scene. The Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the identity of the body later in the day.
