Patient says thank you to those who saved his life

Posted: Updated:

LAKEPORT/RUSK COUNTY (KYTX) - It was Christmas Eve when Scott Brown was brought into Good Shepherd Medical Center's Trauma Center. He woke up that morning ready to deliver Christmas presents and a few hours later, ended up in the emergency room. Today, he wanted to thank those champions who saved his life in a near death experience.

"Like I was telling that first paramedic, I know I'm gon' die."
Scott Brown says the *only reason he believes he's here today is because of Elderville Lakeports First Responders.
"Fence came in the windshield through the steering wheel, poked me in the side and it come out my back and went through the seat."
"It's right here where Mr. Brown's van landed after sliding nearly100 yards off of the roadway. He says coming here today and taking a visit to where he nearly lost his life a month ago on Christmas Eve, has humbled him."
After being released from the hospital, Brown did research and found the names and numbers of the first responders who helped save his life. He wanted to say thank you by providing them lunch.
"I know what they did and I know how much effort they put into saving my life."
Champion Paramedic Donni Reynolds was first on the scene, and was in disbelief of what he found.
"He leans his head up just like this and he says, 'man I'm not doing good,' and I thought oh my God you're awake, your responsive."
"Very elaborate and traumatic injury and to survive something with such severe blood loss..."
A survival for most would be unheard off, but what's more unheard of Reynolds says is a patient coming back to say thank you.
"That's the reason we're all here today because he took the time to find me and to call me and to request that he purchase lunch for the people that saved his life."
Brown saying it's the least he could do.
Champion EMS Paramedic Donni Reynolds says that with Scotts condition, his recovery time of two weeks is a miracle.
