Kilgore police apprehend Murphy USA Bandit

KILGORE (KYTX) - Kilgore Police Department officers responded to a person stealing lawn and garden items Thursday at the Walmart Garden Center.

A witness reported the suspect had pulled up at the lawn and garden center, loaded a Chevrolet Blazer with 10 bags of peat moss and left without paying.

Officer Carolyn Wink located and stopped the suspect's vehicle. The driver, identified as Russell Ray Clark, 43, of Longview, was arrested and charged with theft.

Further investigation revealed Clark was responsible for three thefts at Murphy USA and several thefts at Brookshires. Gregg County sheriff investigators also identified Clark as the person responsible for committing two building burglaries in their jurisdiction.

Clark is charged with felony theft due to previous convictions and two traffic charges. Additional criminal charges are pending.
