Frankston family homeless after tree destroys mobile home

Posted: Updated:

Frankston, TX (KYTX) -- It's a trying time for one Frankston family. They're already struggling with money and health problems-- now they've lost their home. It happened last week on January 29th during a powerful storm.

"I took about 5 steps and BOOM!" LaShonda Moore said. That's the sound she heard as a tree crashed into her mobile home.

LaShonda is epileptic and suffers from injuries from a car wreck. She lives with her dad, Paul Moore, and 9-year-old son who's autistic.

"Everyday is a challenge," Paul tells us. He says what he worked years toward was destroyed within minutes.

"You save up for a house, that's about the only thing that I ever owned in my life, and it's gone just like that," Paul said.

The family says they believe the mobile home is beyond repair.

"I can't live in it, because there's a hole in my kitchen," LaShonda said.

So for now, the trio is staying in a motel room in Coffee City, with people in the community picking up the tab.

"It's by some people we don't even know. Some are friends, some are from churches," LaShonda said.

A neighbor set up a fund for the family at Austin Bank. You can find more information under our "hot button" tab on the front page.

Last we heard, there's a possibility someone is donating a mobile home to the Moore family.
