City looking to ease traffic problems near TISD campus

Posted: Updated:
TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH (KYTX) -

The City of Tyler is looking into solutions to a traffic snarl that occurs every school day.

When classes let out at Robert E. Lee High School, cars back up on both Donnybrook and Loop 323 near the large campus.

The Tyler traffic and safety board met to discuss the problem today.

Danny Mogle joins us from our news partners at the Tyler paper.

Danny, many of us have been caught up in that traffic jam.

Everybody agrees that this is a problem area.

Especially in the afternoons when thousands of students from Robert E. Lee exit the campus on Donnybrook and then funnel out onto the loop.

To make the problem worse is that you have a lot of high school kids on foot trying to cross the loop at Donnybrook and the loop.

Did the board come up with any solutions?

 Not at this time.

They talked about several possibilities including adding another lane on Donnybrook and possibly changing the traffic pattern of students coming out of parking lots at Lee.

The traffic engineer says that none of the possible solutions will be easy but that finding answers is a high priority for the city.

To find out why business owners are concerned, see Dayna Worchel's story in tomorrow's paper.
