Tyler Senior Center to host scam seminar

TYLER (KYTX) - Seniors can be a target for scams, so City of Tyler officials are trying to educate older citizens about the dangers before it is too late. The Tyler Senior Center and Tyler Police are teaming up this month to present a special crime prevention seminar, "Safety First: What to Know Now."

This free event is planned for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12 at the Senior Center, 1915 Garden Valley Road.  It will feature Tyler Police Crime Prevention Officer James McCraw.

"We want to make sure we do everything possible to protect our seniors," said Kay Odom, Tyler Senior Center supervisor. "We cannot stress enough the importance of this event. Scams change from year to year, and Officer McCraw will be discussing the newest scams going on in our community. He is going to help us be better prepared for these types of situations."

The event is open to people ages 55 and better as well as their caregivers. Pre-registration is not required.

McCraw is a recipient of the Texas Crime Prevention Association's Master Award, recognizing Texas crime prevention officers who make significant contributions combating illegal activity.
