LONGVIEW (KYTX) — The survivors of Amy Lynn Cowling, who died in the Gregg County jail in 2010, are set to receive $1.9 million.

The settlement amount was approved Monday morning by a federal judge, according to court documents.

The plaintiffs said Cowling's death may have been avoided if  she had been allowed to take prescribed medication for a bipolar disorder and opiate withdrawal.

Cowling was stopped for speeding on Dec. 24, 2010 and found to have outstanding traffic and theft warrants. She died five days later in jail. Autopsy results said her death was the result of a seizure caused by withdrawal from methadone and alprazolam, the medications Cowling had been prescribed.

The funds will be distributed to her mother and Cowling's three children.

Gregg County admits no wrongdoing in the settlement.
