BOSSIER CITY, La. (KYTX) - The Bossier City Police Department is warning businesses that serve as locations for Western Union to be aware of a scam that has recently hit three such local businesses.

The scam involves someone telephoning the businesses saying that they are with Western Union and need test the store's terminal. The caller tells the business that they want to run a test transaction and instructs the business to enter certain information into the terminal along with a dollar amount. The transaction turns out to be an actual transfer of money and which likely goes to the person behind the scam. In the three local cases, the transactions were sent to the Orlando, Florida area and left the businesses at a financial loss of about $900 each.

The Bossier City Police Department has informed Western Union about the scam. A representative of the company tells police that Western Union does not contact its business partners in such a way and is investigating the matter with the assistance of federal authorities.

Should any Western Union business be contacted in this fashion, they should try to get contact information from the caller then hang up and immediately inform Western Union of the call.
