Rain comes to an end this week, clouds hang around

Posted: Updated:
EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - Rain is coming to an end this afternoon, but skies will remain mostly cloudy through the night and into Wednesday.

Clouds will decrease during the day Wednesday allowing sunshine to break through, but temperatures will stay cool with northwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Highs will be in the mid 50s after morning lows in the high 30s. Thursday will be sunny, and temperatures will rise from the mid 30s in the morning to the mid 60s in the afternoon.

Friday will be mostly sunny with temperatures ranging from 40 degrees in the morning to 62 in the afternoon. Forecast models still show a chance for a winter mix of rain, sleet and snow Friday night, but temperatures look too warm for much accumulation. Saturday and Sunday will be mostly sunny. Temperatures will drop to freezing Sunday morning.

Afternoon highs Saturday will be in the low 50s and climb 10 degrees higher Sunday. Next week will start with increasing chances of showers and thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday.

East Texas (KYTX) - If you're heading out today, don't forget your umbrella. There is 70% chance of rain/thunderstorms this morning.

Some of the thunderstorms are capable of producing 35 mph winds, heavy rain and small pea-sized hail. In fact, there have already been some reports of hail in East Texas. If you're out driving, watch for ponding on area roadways this morning. Highs today will be near 54.

The rain will taper off later today as a cool front sweeps through the area tonight. Mostly sunny tomorrow with a high in the mid-50's.
