VAN ZANDT COUNTY (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - Three Emory residents remained in the Van Zandt County jail Tuesday afternoon after allegedly causing injury an infant.
Child Protective Services called the Sheriff's department to a home near Grand Saline on Jan. 31 for alleged child abuse, said Maria Rongel, public information officer for the Sheriff's department.
Ms. Rongel said an about 2-month-old baby boy was sent by helicopter to Children's Medical Center in Dallas for his injuries and was released on Feb. 3.
The baby had at least 23 fractures on his ribs, three cranial fractures, two fractured arms and a fractured left femur, said Shari Pulliam, public information officer for the Texas Department of Family Protective Services.
"That's a lot of injuries on a little bitty baby that age," she said.
The boy is doing well, and doctors said his prognosis looks good, Ms. Pulliam said.
The sheriff's office arrested 19-year-old Kayla Fountain, 21-year-old Sean Alsip and 40-year-old Lejunana Alisp and charged them with the first-degree felony of injury to a child. Each is being held on a $500,000 bond, she said.
Ms. Rongel declined to comment on the nature of the child's injuries and said the department would not be issuing mug shots because the investigation is ongoing. CPS has an open investigation as well.
"We have the child safe now," Ms. Pulliam said. "That is our main concern."
