Volunteers Repair Military Family's Home in Hutto After Vandals Break In

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- Military families know how hard it can be to move from city to city and uproot their lives.

So when it was time for the Vinyard family to return to Hutto after spending years out of state, they were shocked at what they found.

Their home was destroyed by squatters, with graffiti on almost every wall.

Team Rubicon, a disaster organization made up of vets, wasted no time putting a team together to help.

More than 40 volunteers helped repair all of the damage.

Steven Kling with Rubicon said, "Opportunity for veterans to give back and continue to serve their communities during a disaster through all those skills they developed and in this case we're also helping a veteran and his family get back on their feet."

More than $5,000 worth of material was donated, mostly by Home Depot.
