American Airlines, US Airways announce merger

(CBS) - American Airlines and US Airways will announce this morning they are merging.

The boards of the two airlines agreed to the plan late Wednesday night. The deal creates the largest airline in the world and has been in the works since august. The airline will keep the American Airlines name and US Airways CEO Doug Parker will run the company.

American Airlines's bankruptcy judge as well as federal regulators must still approve the merger .
