Valentine's Day flower delivery rush

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) - There's a mad rush of last minute flower deliveries across East Texas. Valentine's Day is one of the busiest days of the year for florists.

"Hello, Brosang's."

With the phone ringing off the hook...

"Yes, we are very busy."

Florists like Brosang's Flowers in Tyler had Valentine orders piling in all day long.

Flower designer Marilyn Brosang stayed busy making bouquets.

"The red rose for love, but also the tulip. The tulip is the most passionate flower."

All for people like Jacque Duck, who waited until the last minute to buy for his sweetheart.

"I should have done it yesterday." he says.

Store owner Michael Brosang took on some of the delivery duties today.

"You want to make sure everything is sprayed down. You know, appearance and image is everything."

He says staying on schedule is the biggest struggle they have every year on Valentine's Day.

"All your customers, at one time, say 'I want my wife to have the best on Valentine's Day. And, I want it to be between 10 and 11 o'clock.'"

Michael says drivers only have an average of 10 minutes per delivery if they're wanting to stay on schedule. That can become quite chaotic when you're talking about 200 deliveries per day on a busy day like Valentine's Day. But, he says he's happy to spread the Valentine's Day love.

"If we can get the flowers to them at the right time, at the right moment, most men love that. You bet."

And, Michael says seeing people's faces light up when they receive their flowers from that special someone is priceless.

"We're taking this one to Shannon Parker at Orthopedics on McDonald. Here we go..."

He says special deliveries like this make all the chaos worth it for him.

"It's... Aw, Tom Tom."

"Give him a hug? I can do that. Valentine's hug. Appreciate it. You bet. Thank you."

Then, it's on to the next delivery...

The next big rush for florists will be Mother's Day in May.
