IRS reminds consumers about online tax issues

Posted: Updated:
TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH (KYTX) -

The IRS is reminding consumers that it does not use email to initiate contact with taxpayers about issues related to their taxes.

For more on this warning, we go live to Megan Middleton with our news partner the Tyler Morning Telegraph.

What is the IRS telling consumers?

They're saying that the IRS never sends out unsolicited emails…

And under no circumstances does it request Credit Card or other personal information through email, text messages or social media channels.

What should someone do if they receive an email like this?

They should not try to visit any site contained within the email or open any attachments…

Because some of these may contain viruses that could cause problems on your computer or your mobile phone.

Any suspicious emails can be sent to the IRS – which can trace the email's origins and alert authorities.

For more on what these suspicious emails might contain, read tomorrow's Tyler Morning Telegraph.
