Fishermen rescued after boat sinks on Lake Palestine

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE:

Lake Palestine (KYTX) - Smith County Game Warden Chris Swift tells us the boat sank around 11 this morning. The names of the men on the boat are Brian Capps, who was sent to the hospital with signs of hypothermia, and Dave Davidson.

Swift says two brothers, Greg and Jeremy Frazer from Dallas, rescued the men. The Frazer brothers say they often fish on Lake Palestine and are familiar with the area.

Swift says the boat sank because it was too small to be on the water in the current conditions. He says the winds created a problem for the boaters and urges everyone to always check lake wind advisories before getting onto the water.

EARLIER STORY:

LAKE PALESTINE (KYTX) - Two fishermen are rescued just in time when their boat filled with water outside the Villages Marina on Lake Palestine Sunday afternoon.

Smith County Game Wardens say another fisherman, and a man doing yard work both saw the boat begin to fill with water. The fisherman got in his boat and rescued the men before it was too late.

Game wardens say both med had life jackets, and one was hanging onto a cooler as their boat sank.

One man was transported to Trinity Mother Frances for hypothermia.

They were in the water for about 15 minutes. Rescue crews say the fisherman that pulled them out of the water saved their lives.

Smith County Game Wardens say, "Another five or 10 minutes, and at least one of them probably would not have made it."

There is no word on why the boat filled with water. Crews are investigating.
