UPDATE: Tanker jet fuel spill cleared, traffic lanes open

UPDATE: TYLER (KYTX) - Loop 323 near Commerce Street has been cleared at the scene of the 18-wheeler crash. 

All traffic lanes are now open for traffic.

 


UPDATE: According to authorities on the scene, the oil tanker lost about 700 gallons of jet-A fuel. A backhoe is being used to help contain the spilled fuel from going any further into the woods near where the tanker ran off the road.

 

The remaining fuel in the tanker is being pumped into a relief tanker.

The driver of the tanker will be cited for failure to maintain lane.

Traffic is still moving slowly and drivers are still being asked to avoid this area for the next couple of hours while the scene is still being cleaned up.

 


Tyler Police Department:

 

UPDATE: TYLER (KYTX) - The Tyler Police Department is currently working an incident involving an 18-wheeler that is leaking fuel on Loop 323 north of Commerce Street. 

Tyler Fire Department is on the scene, along with Tyler Police Officers directing traffic. 

No roadways are shut down at this time; however the Tyler Police Department requests that motorist avoid this area of the Loop until further notice.

 


TYLER (KYTX) - Emergency crews are on the scene of an oil tanker spill in Tyler on NE Loop 323 near Commerce St.

The tanker ran off the road around 11:05 a.m. Monday and ruptured a pipe that leaked JT-A which is jet fuel onto the road.

HAZMAT is on the scene and blocked off two of the northbound lanes of Loop 323. Traffic is still able to get around but the area should be avoided if possible.

KYTX CBS 19 has a crew on the scene and will bring more information as it becomes available.
