HENDERSON (KYTX) - Monica Carr has been a caregiver for years. She cooks, cleans, and makes sure her patient lives comfortably.

Her patient happens to live off of Rusk County Road 228 near Henderson -- where getting a glass of water takes more work than simply turning a knob.

"The problem with this house is its only functional half the time. We need it to care for him, flush, and dish washing" - Carr

Monica says they go through five of these water jugs daily.

She has to get water from neighbors a well a mile away.

Monica says her patient relies on an oxygen tank, and the water is important to humidify that air.

She says it can get pricey buying H20

"it does get expensive" - Carr

For the 70 plus families that live in this area --- they rely on these wells for water.

Rusk County Commissioner Mike Pepper says the wells are very shallow, and often have no water in them.

"we have some folks that ran out of water for the last 2-3 years really and we've been working hard to get them some water" - MIke Pepper

Pepper says with a $350,000 from an organization- Church Hill Water--which is just a few miles away from these families homes-- will offer it's services. Pepper says he considers this a priority.

"there are about 27 families that are in dire need of it, and we will get it to them first" - Pepper

For Carr, she says it's a blessing. .

"it's a heavenly gifT" - Carr
