Pope replacement vote sooner than usual

Posted: Updated:

(CNN) - It appears Pope Benedict wants his replacement chosen sooner than usual.

The Vatican says he may change the Church's constitution. Right now, it says a vote should begin 15 to 20 days after a papal vacancy. Benedict's last day as pontiff is February 28th. That means the soonest the College of Cardinals would start choosing a new leader, would be March 15th.

Pope Benedict shocked Catholics last week when he announced his resignation, citing old age.
