Storms cause damage, 1 death in East Texas

UPDATE: EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - Storms that washed across parts of East Texas Thursday are being blamed for one death in Strickland Crossing, according to officials.

Louise Stringer, 74, has been confirmed as the person killed in the Strickland Crossing storms. Stringer was inside a trailer home that was damaged. Nearby neighbors say Stringer's sister-in-law, who was at the residence, was injured.

Photos from Strickland Crossing in Sabine County shows downed trees and structural damage to homes.

Damage was also reported near Wells in Cherokee County and possibly in Pineland.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.


UPDATE: SABINE COUNTY (KYTX) - One person has been confirmed dead in the Pineland community in Sabine County.

Pineland Police tells CBS 19 that it is a woman but her identity is not being released at this time.



UPDATE: EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - Several homes were damaged in Sabine County during today's storms. At least three people have been injured, according to reports.

Two injuries were reported in the Hemphill area and one injury in Pineland. Structural damage was reported, as well.

Trees and powerlines are down in Cherokee County, and damage was done to a residence and nearby barn on FM 1911, reports show.


EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - Rain and thunderstorms which have been concentrated in the Deep East Texas counties this afternoon will be moving eastward into Louisiana during the afternoon. There have been reports of small hail, heavy rain and lots of lightning with the storms but nothing that would be considered severe through mid-afternoon.

Winds will become northerly tonight shutting off almost all chance of rain by midnight. Friday will be mostly sunny with the low 39 and the high 58 degrees. The next chance of showers and thunderstorms will be a 20% to 30% chance Sunday night and Monday. Highs will be in the 60s through next Thursday. Lows Saturday morning will be near freezing. They will be in the mid-30s to mid-40s Sunday through Thursday.
