GILMER/UPSHUR COUNTY (KYTX) - Diane Strother works at Wil-Max convenience store in Gilmer, just ten blocks from the home of Shawn Willard, the man accused of raping a convenience store clerk in Longview.
"Scary to know he could've been in here...I could've been that store clerk."
Documents at the Gregg County Courthouse show Willard was arrested Saturday for sexual assault. Thursday, Gregg County prosecutors tacked on two additional aggravated sexual assault charges which means Willard could serve up to life in prison if convicted.
Those additional charges are all from Saturday's incideNT.
Upshur County Judge Dean Fowler sentenced Willard to 18 months' probation for that crime.
"First of all with a child they should've took it more seriously, not probation, a slap on the wrist, it should have been jail time."
Strother says for now, she's just glad Willard is off the streets of East Texas.
"It's very scary cause you do not know who's coming in, and to find out there is someone in the neighborhood makes you even more scared."
Willard is in the Gregg County jail on $300,000 bond.
