HOUSTON (KHOU) – A father was arrested Sunday after his 4-year-old son fatally shot himself at an apartment in north Houston, police said.

Marquiez Pratt, 31, is charged with endangering a child and possession of a controlled substance, according to the Houston Police Department.

Homicide detectives said that patrol units responded to a 911 call of a shooting at 8:45 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 13500 block of Northborough Drive.

When police arrived, they found Pratt carrying his son, Jaiden Pratt, who had been shot in the chest, detectives said.

Paramedics arrived shortly after and tried to revive the Jaiden, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The boy lives with his mother, but sometimes visits his father at his apartment on the weekends, detectives said.

Police said that Pratt was allegedly dealing drugs from his apartment, and that the weapon the child shot himself with was stolen.
