Brother's Keeper

Brother's Keeper

Posted: Updated:

Stoney Gatewood has been in and out of prison his entire adult life.

Drugs, alcohol, and crime were his 9 to 5.

"It was just a disaster, my life had no mean what so ever. It was all about having a good time." - GATEWOOD

Since he was 18, Gatewood has been arrested 54 times, but has had zero in the past 4 years.

He gives all the credit to the outreach program Brother's Keeper that outreaches to prison inmates.

"Because of this program, and the people in it. I am able to function in society. And I never thought that would happen" - Gatewood

Since 2009, 42 men have gone through the 2 year program run by Heart Dream Fellowship Church in Marshall.

Members minister to people who are still in jail.

And ex-cons can come stay in the church's transitional housing.

There they find their faith, get a job, a driver's license, and iron out lingering legal issues.

Director Randy Sawyer says some slip back into their ways, but there are many more success stories.

"We can't help everyone... but for those who want to increase their knowledge we bring them here. We teach them every facet of society" - Randy Sawyer

"The ministry says the goal is to do one thing, to plant a seed... that will produce more fruit" - Kevin Boyce

"Surrender their lives to the Lord, you can't hold nothing back" - Gatewood

While Brother's Keeper only minister to inmates at Bradshaw State Jail in Henderson now -- they'll expand to others soon.
