LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Opening arguments began this morning in separate criminal trials for two men accused of family violence in Gregg County last year.
Ronnie Alan Montalbano, 30, of Henderson, is accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend in the shoulder with a pair of needle-nosed pliers, punching her in the face and stomping on her head. He faces up to life in prison for first-degree aggravated assault. He is on trial in the 124th District Court.
Meanwhile, in the 188th District Court, another jury is listening to testimony in the aggravated assault case of Michael Dean Perry, of Longview. Perry is accused of breaking down his niece's door and threatening her with a knife before punching her several times and pulling her hair, according to court records. According to arrest records, Longview police officers noticed a cut on her lip and spoke with a witness who said the victim tried to dial 911, but Perry took the phone away from her.
Both trials will resume in their respective courts at 9 a.m. Thursday in the Gregg County Courthouse.
