Health Alert: Exposure To BPA Heightens Risk For Asthma In Children

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - Children exposed to the chemical bisphenol A or BPA have a greater chance of developing asthma. That's according to researchers at Columbia University. BPA is commonly found in some plastic containers and cans. The study found an increased risk for wheezing and asthma even with low levels of exposure to BPA.

(CBS) - Nearly 25 percent of newly diagnosed breast cancer patients experience some symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder including anxiety and difficulty sleeping. New York researchers found one in four women met the criteria for PTSD during the first few months after diagnosis. Younger women, Black and Asian women were most likely to develop the disorder.

(CBS) - The use of electronic cigarettes is growing rapidly. A new study from the centers for disease control and prevention shows one in five current smokers have tried the battery operated devices. E-cigarettes heat a liquid nicotine solution and create a vapor that is inhaled instead of smoked. The CDC says they appear to have fewer toxins compared to traditional cigarettes, but their long-term health effects still need to be studied.
