ARP (KYTX) -

An East Texas man remains in intensive care at a Tyler hospital after being shot Tuesday night.

Smith County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer John Moore said the shooting happened at a home in the 15000 block of Highway 135 near Arp before 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Richard Lee Hunt, 51, is accused of shooting his unidentified victim multiple times including once in the neck. Investigators believe he then accidentally shot himself in the leg.

Both men were taken to the hospital. The unidentified victim who was shot in the neck had surgery Tuesday night. He was listed in critical condition Wednesday morning.

Hunt was released from the hospital Wednesday morning and booked into the Smith County jail. He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He bonded out Wednesday afternoon on $50,000 bail.

Deputies are still investigating to find out what led to the shooting.
