UPDATE:  Tyler police tell CBS 19 87-year-old Doyle Simmons will not be ticketed for the crash.

However, police say he is currently under medical review and could have to undergo more driving test when it's time for his license to be renewed.

Police are still not sure what caused Simmons to lose control and crash into the bank.

TYLER (KYTX) - An elderly man crashes into Citizens 1st Bank near Troup highway and Loop 323 totaling his SUV Wednesday Morning. Some employees inside the bank were sitting just 10-feet from where 87-year-old Doyle Simmons crashed.

'When he turned off the street, he turned pretty fast," said Jimmy Terry.

It all started in the Braum's parking lot, just a block away. Construction worker Jimmy Terry saw the 87-year-old man speed through the parking lot, with what he describes, as a confused look on his face.

"Just a blank stare, like he was staring out into space," said Terry.

After he drove through this parking lot, he passed right by Texas Roadhouse employee James Huntsberger.

"When he hit the bottom of the hill, he bounced almost enough to clear the road," said Huntsberger.

Surveillance video shows the Buick SUV flying by James and his co-workers. From another angle, you see the SUV speed through the empty parking lot.

Next, you see James run across the parking lot after the man, while his co-workers call 911.

"I'm pretty sure my 911 phone call was kind of hectic," said Huntsberger.

James watched as the SUV smashed into Citizens 1st Bank. Vice President Randy Grooms drove up right after it happened.

"We had two people at their desk that were 10 feet away. Scariest thing ever," said Grooms.

The building sustained some structural damage. But the bank opened up just a few hours later.

We're still not sure what caused Mr. Simmons to lose control. Police said it could have been a mechanical or medical issue.
