Mount Pleasant PD steps up DWI patrol during upcoming Spring Break

Posted: Updated:

Mount Pleasant Police Department:

MOUNT PLEASANT (KYTX) - The Mount Pleasant Police Department will begin a Driving While Intoxicated "DWI" Enforcement program the time of spring break, Friday, March 8, 2013 through Sunday, March 17, 2013.

Special traffic units will implement a zero-tolerance approach to alcohol-related and impaired driving (drug) offenses.  This increased enforcement effort includes having additional officers on the street.   Officers will also be keeping an eye on businesses that serve alcoholic beverages looking for people who are intoxicated in public places.  The police department will be doing this in an attempt to prevent an impaired person from getting behind the wheel of a vehicle.

Historically, approximately 50 percent of all traffic fatalities across the state involve drug and/or alcohol intoxication.  Lives are dramatically changed by the decision to drive impaired on alcohol or drugs.  The safety of the citizens on our public roadways is our primary concern said Chief Wayne Isbell.  The Mount Pleasant Police Department encourages people not to allow friends to get behind the wheel after drinking and call 911 to report reckless driving and possible drunk drivers.  Everyone plays a role in the effort to reduce alcohol and drug related vehicle accidents to keep our community safe.
