Eight complaints against Longview funeral home since 2004

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - New information on a Longview funeral home under state investigation.

The Texas Funeral Service Commission says it has received eight complaints against Stanmore Funeral Home dating back to 2004.

The funeral home's owner and director, Vernon Stanmore, has been accused by customers of not fulfilling death certificate obligations -- and violating state health, safety and occupational codes.

Stanmore was fined more than six-thousand dollars in 20-10 following a death certificate complaint from Rusk County Clerk Joyce Kugle.

"By law, we have to call, we have to follow up, and he really didn't like us checking on him," Kugle says.

Stanmore's sister-in-law has filed a lawsuit against him in Dallas County. She says, in 2008, Stanmore prepared his brother's body for burial, but he removed his vital organs and gave the wife a hollow corpse without telling her.

She says Stanmore told her the truth four years later, after she discovered where the organs had been buried.
