LONGVIEW (KYTX) -

UPDATE: Victoria Ashworth, the public information officer with Good Shepherd Hospital, said Monday that Justice of the Peace Sam Lawson is in good condition.

Ken Cunningham, Executive Vice President/Interim CEO, released this statement Monday:

"Because of privacy law, we are unable to comment specifically on the care of this patient. Good Shepherd Medical Center does not provide psychiatric inpatient care but remains committed to working collaboratively with state and county officials, as well as families, to help patients get the psychiatric care they need."

UPDATE:

Victoria Ashworth, the public information officer with Good Shepherd Hospital says Justice of the Peace Sam Lawson is in critical condition in an Intensive Care Unit following the shooting.

EARLIER STORY:

Gregg County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Sam Lawson was hospitalized Saturday and his wife Ina was arrested following a shooting at their south Longview home, according to Longview police.

Police spokeswoman Kristie Brian said police were called to Lawson's home in the 2400 block of Pam Street at about 11 PM Saturday. Brian said Ina and Sam had fought during the evening, and eventually Ina went to get a gun. Brian said Ina shot Sam and then called police.

Lawson was transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, Brian said. Ina was taken to the Gregg County Jail, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and family violence.

Ina's bond has been set at $100,000.

Sam was elected to the county's Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace position in 1987. He also has three decades of law enforcement experience with Gregg County and the City of Longview.

Note: Ina Lawson's arrest record appears to incorrectly list her first name as "Ira." A number of other public records, dating back to her marriage to Sam, list her name as "Ina."
