Web Exclusive: Dog Survives 300 Foot Fall

Posted: Updated:

(CNN) - They say cats have nine lives. But the dog you're about to meet certainly has his share as well.

A family pet who fell 300 feet into the Spokane River, and lived to tell the tale.

The bowl & pitcher is a great place for "Jasper Mclovin," the Goldendoodle to run off some energy, but this time, he ran too far.

"I think he couldn't see over it, so he leaped over to see the other side and there was no other side."

Jasper and his boy, Marshall, were racing to an outlook point with a ledge and little else.

"He turned because we were still coming up the hill, my husband and I, and he said..."

"Mom, Dad! Jasper jumped! Off the... I... I don't know... I didn't really know what to say..."

I'll say it, Jasper jumped off a cliff. 300 feet down into the Spokane river.

"He had to hit the sides because he's kind of scuffed a little."

"I see Jasper, and he's wet, and he's looking at me like 'please help me.'"

Jasper swam to shore on his own, and his humans rushed him to the arms of doctor Joe Peterson at the North Division Animal Medical Center.

"Came in, he was huffing and puffing..."

With a fall of 300 feet, Peterson was expecting the worst.

"As a minimum - major fractures, bleeding in the chest cavity, skull fractures..."

But Jasper walked away with a bruised liver, bruised lungs and a scratch on his leg.

"Luckily, no bones were broken. I can't believe it."

"For him to walk away from this with nothing more than a scratch and something that was easily resolved in his chest is really pretty amazing."

Amazing, still. Four days later, Jasper seems to have his spunk back. Much to this cat's dismay.

"Very energetic. He's not supposed to bark or play and he thinks otherwise."

There's no other way to put it. This Goldendoodle is one lucky dog.

"That's Jasper..."
