Spring Break Crackdown

JUStin, Mount Pleasant Police tell me that they tend to see a higher volume in DWI offenses during the spring break season but if you plan to drive after you've thrown back a few, you should expect to be arrested.

Friday kicked off a campaign to wrangle up DWI offenders in Mount Pleasant.

With high school, and college students out of class, the Mount Pleasant Police Department is putting more officers on the streets. Officers specifically looking for signs of drunk driving.

17 year old krista betts worries about being on the road late at night.

"I usually don't go out. I will either stay at a friends or go home earlier before it's too late." - Krista Betts

She just got her first car a few months ago, and doesn't want to put it in jeopardy.

"It concerns me that my brand new car will get wrecked because someone didn't care about someone else's safety."

Mount Pleasant Police Chief Wayne Isbell is leading the charge against DWIs. He says it's only been a couple of days and his arrests are growing.

"I've been getting daily reports and I know our arrest records are up." - Wayne Isbell, Mount Pleasant Police Chief

Mount Pleasant Police are also headed out to bars, restaurants, and night clubs to make sure those who've had a few too many are making it home safely. Even offering rides home to keep them off the roads.

For Chief Isbell, he says regardless of your age, he will have 0 tolerance.

"Our job is to protect the public, and that's what we will do" - Isbell

Chief Isbell says that his officers in charge of the patrols have 12 hour shifts.  And focus their time between 6 PM and 6 am.
