UPDATE:

The Department of Public Safety has released the names of the four people killed in the wreck that shut down highway 79 in Cherokee County at 7:55 this morning.

Investigators say 24-year-old Michael Estrada was driving south on highway 79 about a mile and a half south of New Summerfield when the car crossed over into on coming traffic and hit two other vehicles including a tractor trailer.

Estrada died at the scene, as did the three other passengers in his vehicle. 24-year-old Christian Chavez, 24-year-old Jamie Benitez and 22-year-old Saul Mancera, all of Palestine, also died at the scene.

Justice of the Peace Tony Dunston pronounced the four victims dead, their bodies will be taken to Autry Funeral Home.

The drivers of the other two vehicles were not injured.

UPDATE:

CHEROKEE COUNTY (KYTX) - Highway 79 has been reopened in Cherokee County after Troopers complete their investigation into the cause of the accident that killed 4 people this morning.

That information has not yet been released.

EARLIER STORY:

CHEROKEE COUNTY (KYTX) - Highway 79 is shut down just east of Jacksonville because of a crash that killed four people.

The Department of Public Safety says Troopers are blocking the roadway to determine what caused the accident four miles east of Jacksonville around 8 this morning.

Three vehicles were involved in the wreck, including an 18-wheeler.

We have a crew at the scene and will bring you more information as it becomes available.
