Community Organizes Fundraisers for 6 Year Old Girl Fighting Cancer

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) --  A six-year-old Temple girl is diagnosed with Stage four brain cancer and is given less than two years to live.

Now the Central Texas community is coming together to help.

The girl's family is so grateful for any help they can get because they don't have health insurance.

Just a month ago, six-year-old Jayln Martin's life took a turn for the worst.

Her parents, Kiristi and Nick, noticed Jayln was acting differently and complaining about headaches.

After a C.T. scan, 6-year-old Jayln was diagnosed with Stage four brain cancer with some doctors only giving her 8 months to live.

The Martin family moved from Moody to Temple to be closer to Scott and White which is less than a mile away from where they live now.

Kristi and Nick are still optimistic about Jayln even though they have no insurance.

Jayln starts her cancer treatment on Tuesday including 6 weeks of radiation and 42 straight days of at home chemotherapy.

Although Jayln was shy when being interviewed but her bravery shows she's wise beyond her years.

According to Kristi, "She's ready to start chemo and radiation. She says she's ready to fight. She says that even if she loses all of her hair, she doesn't want a wig she wants a big ol' bow for her head."

The Martin family is overwhelmed with support for Jayln. And next weekend is a busy one for her with a garage sale in Harker Heights and a benefit at the Moffatt Community Center next Saturday.

Everything raised will go toward Jayln's medical bills.
