How would you feel if your child's teacher was carrying a gun, to protect them?
Tuesday state lawmakers heard a bill that would allow just that.
Under this particular bill, the state would actually pay for school employees to learn to carry a gun on the job.
The Senate Education Committee heard the testimony on the topic.
It would apply to public school districts and charter schools that don't already have armed security guards.
The Texas Department of Public Safety would handle the firearm training for two employees, per campus.
There are several other proposals that would amp up the security at schools after the mass shooting in Connecticut.
DPS also spoke on the role they'd play training the employees.
The bill was not passed, but left pending.
It will get taken up as soon as the senate reaches a general agreement.
