Senior students and their parents, heading to Pine Tree ISD to get a lesson in financial aid.

The 10 page Federal Application for Student Aid, or FAFSA, can be a little intimidating.

So financial aid counselors with Letourneau University is offering guidance in this after hours course.

"We are here helping Pine Tree students who need help filing the FAFSA, and through experience know the answers to their questions" - Debbie Nelson

And it's help that's necessary for many families.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, college tuition has risen 15% since 2010. Making it tough for some students to continue their education.

According to the U.S. Department of Education,  Over 8 million students never apply for the 236 billion dollars available.

"Debbie Nelson says the FAFSA can scare some parents, and this class is intended to ease those fears" - Kevin Boyce

"It can be intimidating just looking at it, it isn't as hard as some people think but certainly ask for help." - Debbie Nelson

Nelson says that the FAFSA uses the parents W-2's and tax return information to estimate a families contribution and that will determine how much aid your student qualifies for.

And if you don't know what to do first -- ask an expert at the college where your child is applying.
