The Obesity Society and the International Association for the Study of Obesity Come Together to Expand Research and Education to Support Reproductive Health
SILVER SPRING, Md., March 21, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The science and research community continues to uncover close ties between obesity and the risks posed to both women and babies pre- and post-birth. New research shows women affected by obesity may be at increased risk for heart attack and stroke after giving birth[i] and another study points to an increased risk of obesity for children born via cesarean section.[ii]

In an effort to further educate clinicians on the many emerging ties between obesity and risks in pregnancy and birth, The Obesity Society (TOS) and the International Association for the Study of Obesity (IASO) are coming together to host the Obesity & Pregnancy Conference in Boston, Mass., May 15-17, 2013.
WHAT: The Conference program will include a balance of basic science, translational research and clinical practice that explores the tie between obesity and pregnancy. Attendees will have the opportunity to earn continuing education credit from experts in nutrition, diabetes, cardiovascular health and metabolism. Participants will also be able to explore the latest research during poster presentations relating to conference themes.

WHO: The conference is open to all clinicians (obstetricians, pediatricians, endocrinologists, psychologists, nutritionists and surgeons), as well as midwives and basic scientists involved in the field of obesity and reproductive health.
