At least six undocumented Immigrants dead after Kleberg County accident

KINGSVILLE (Kiii News) - At least six-undocumented immigrants are dead following a truck crash on Naval Air Station-Kingsville in Kleberg County, Texas.

The accident happened around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers attempted to pull a suspicious truck over when the driver decided to speed up.  The truck slammed through one gate on the air station forcing guards to dive to safety.

A barrier was raised down the road to prevent the truck from making it further onto base.  Public Information Officer Jon Gagne says this is when the truck crashed.

"Our gate guard did exactly what he was supposed to do. He stepped out to observe the vehicle coming in and greeted the vehicle as he normally would, but the vehicle did not stop," Gagne said. "It went through there at a high rate of speed. He notified the inside front gate and our barrier was deployed," said Gagne.

The total number of people inside the truck is unknown.

Survivors of the accident were taken to the hospital by air ambulance.
