TYLER (KYTX) - Tyler's Seventh Annual Seniors Celebrating Life event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 28 at the Harvey Convention Center, located at 2000 W. Front St. in Tyler.

 

The free event will feature a myriad of hands-on sessions of interest to seniors celebrating life. Each participant can choose to attend three sessions. The tentative program choices include: 

9:15 a.m.: 1. "Seeds and Sprouts"

               2. "Brain Pump, Brain Dump"

               3. "Couponing and Stretching Your Dollar"

               4. "Avoiding Investment Fraud"

               5. "Insurance Needs for Seniors"

 

10:15 a.m.: 1. "Understanding Social Media"

                 2. "Volunteering and Tourism in Tyler"

                 3. "SCAMS Against Seniors"

                 4. "Low Vision Aids"

                 5. "Non-partisan Legislative Resources"

 

11:15 a.m.: 1. "Nutritious Fine Dining for Seniors"

                 2. "Medicare and You"

                 3. "Protecting Family Assets"

                 4. "Texercise"

                 5. "Watkins-Logan State Veterans Home"

 

Seniors can attend up to three break-out sessions followed by a free luncheon and entertainment featuring Crystal Beltran and Patrick Odom, singing tunes from the 1930's to the 1950's, and the Tyler Senior Center Line Dancers. 

More than 50 vendors will provide give-aways and information on services and goods available to seniors. 

"This event is very special because it is all about celebrating life," said Debbie Isham, special events and recreation manager for the City of Tyler and chairperson for this event. "We have brought together educational, informational as well as fun activities that focus on living life to its fullest." 

Admission to this interactive and educational event is free; lunch, door prizes and giveaways will be provided to attendees. 

Sponsors for Seniors Celebrating Life include the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce, the City of Tyler Parks and Recreation Department, The Lighthouse, Copeland Insurance Group and Atria Copeland and Atria Willow Park. More than 40 other local businesses will be participating as sponsors.
