ARLINGTON  (CBSDFW.COM) The father of six-year-old Emilie Parker, who was killed in the horrific tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, will throw the ceremonial first pitch prior to the Texas Rangers' home opener on Friday, April 5 versus the Los Angeles Angels.

The father, Robbie Parker, grew up in North Texas and will be accompanied by his wife Alissa and daughters Madeline and Samantha for the first pitch ceremony. Mr. Parker grew up a Rangers fan, and took Emilie to several Rangers games in Arlington, Seattle, and Boston.

Several organizations, including ESPN Dallas and local baseball website The Newberg Report, helped raise thousands of dollars for Emilie's Fund, which assisted families of those impacted by the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School. In a statement read on ESPN Dallas 103.3, Mr. Parker expressed his sincere gratitude to the fans of North Texas.

"I am so proud to be a Ranger fan, because I know that as a fan I actually belong to a community. I am glad I was able to share the community with my precious daughter and that the same community has reached out to her and let our family know that she is remembered and loved. Thank you for all you have done to support our family through this time. GO RANGERS!!"

The sellout game between the Rangers and Angels will be played at 1:05 p.m. on April 5.
