LETU 37th Annual Car Show

Posted: Updated:

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Johnny Allen has spent over 30 years restoring this '37 Willys Coupe.
He's put over $22,000 into the project and countless hours of sweat and labor.
He says the car holds memories that he can't put a price on.

"For sentimental reasons really, in 1948 it's the car I was driving when I married my wife. To look like the one we had then, I restored it identical to that one" - Johnny Allen

Allen is one of dozens showing off their automobiles at Letourneau's Car Show.
The show is organized and run by Letourneau students, Who spend months preparing for it.
Car Show Coordinator Logan Houshmand says it's a lot of work.

"We got to other car shows and put flyers on other cars, and we get called from people wanting to support us." - Logan Houshmand, Car Show Coordinator

"Not only does the car show bring enthusiasts from around East Texas, but also benefits a mission group located in Haiti" - Kevin Boyce

"The terrain is tough, so we are going to build them a big truck with mud tires, a winch, and something that will protect them and allow them to continue there work." - Houshmand

Houshmand says despite the rain, the event has attracted nearly 500 people over the weekend.  And the quality of cars that came out this year was stellar.
For showmen like Johnny Allen, he says this show is always his favorite to come to.

"I've gotten to know all these students and they are a great bunch of guys, and I always say it's the best car show around" - Allen
