Before you know it, fall will be here and it will be time to go back to school.  For parents that means stocking up on notebooks, number two pencils, and back to school clothes, all of which usually take a big chunk out of a family's budget.  So, just how much do parents will pay to send their kids off to school this year?More >>

TYLER (KYTX) -

Tyler Area Senior Citizens Association, or TASCA, is getting ready to use rubber ducks for a new fundraiser. October 5th, the group will host a 'Rubber Duck Regatta' at Lago Del Pino in Tyler.

The fundraising will begin Saturday, March 30 at Broadway Square Mall, near Sears. People can begin adopting ducks for the race day from 10a-8p.

More on event from TASCA:

The primary fund raiser for TASCA during 2013 will be the world renowned "Duck Race". Committee Co-Chairs James Holloway and Chris Fleming have assembled a committee to plan and execute this extraordinary event. Partnering with GAME, a cutting edge innovator in special event marketing, plans are underway to bring a unique and exciting event to the Tyler area. The event will include several smaller happenings that will be sure to provide ‘something for everyone'.

Duck Races have been held in cities across the United States for the past 25 years. Non-profit organizations have accumulated millions of dollars in much needed funds, as a direct result of this fun filled event. It is a tried and true function that keeps on giving back!

TASCA is partnering with nonprofit organizations in the East Texas area in an effort to work together for the good of the entire community. Agreements are in progress with these organizations to provide them a financial return for their efforts in supporting the event. In all, the Regatta will truly be an area wide event that stands to serve and bring enjoyment to many groups and individuals, who would otherwise be unable to be a part of such a fantastic endeavor to raise much needed funds!

Over 5,000 rubber ducks will be dropped into the lake on the grounds of the beautiful Lago del Pino. These ducks, which have been "adopted" by supporters of the fundraiser, will then race toward the finish line propelled on their way with help from motorized watercraft. The fastest swimmers will be "trapped" in order of their approach. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place swimmers will win great prizes for their owners. Since this is the first year for TASCA to be hosting the Regatta, prize negotiation is still underway. Several awesome prizes have already been donated and more come in everyday. Check our website at www.duckrace.com/tasca for the most current list of prizes. The website is updated regularly to reflect new prizes. With the support of community sponsors, the TASCA Rubber Duck Regatta will become an annual community-wide event to raise much needed funds for many East Texas organizations.

TYLER AREA SENIOR CITIZENS ASSOCIATION (TASCA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax exempt organization dedicated to meeting the social and personal needs of a growing population of adults in East Texas. It was founded in 1991 to help further the interests of adults primarily over the age of 50. Needs identified in recent years have resulted in the adoption of a major new goal—that of being the organization that seniors reach out to for health and recreation activities critical to their well-being. Statistics show that 6 out of 10 new households established in the Tyler area are headed by persons over 50, and this growing segment of the population needs a voice and an advocate in community affairs. TASCA is filling that need, spearheading not only recreational and fellowship activities for seniors, but maintaining an active presence in the organizations and forums that set area policy and pave the way for the future for all of us.

TASCA was organized to give all adults a way to meet people and make friends. It provides affordable entertainment options, health enhancing activities, and helps promote a spirit of community. Membership in TASCA is open to everyone regardless of age, whether you are already a senior citizen or would like to support your future through auxiliary membership. Regular membership is available to persons age 50 and older. Auxiliary membership is available to persons under 50 years old. Auxiliary members pay dues and may participate in all TASCA activities, but do not vote. Annual dues are $36 per person and are prorated for new members.
